New information released by AAA last month compares Atlanta car accidents to those in other U.S. cities, and the results are not favorable for our city.
According to AAA’s 2009 data:
- More than 62,000 people were injured in Atlanta car crashes. Only three cities in the United States had more car accident injuries reported than the metro Atlanta area during 2009. Those cities included the metropolitan areas of Chicago, Los Angeles, and New York City.
- 498 people lost their lives in fatal Atlanta car wrecks. Only five cities in the United States had more fatal crashes during 2009. Those cities include the metro areas of Chicago, Houston, Los Angeles, Miami, and New York City.
- The car accidents cost the Atlanta area almost $11 million. Only five other metro areas included in the study had higher costs. Those cities included in the metro areas of Chicago, Los Angeles, Miami and New York City.
AAA encourages states to consider the costs of accidents and to make safety a priority when passing laws and improving roads and transportation systems.
Our Atlanta accident lawyers extend our sincere condolences to everyone injured in recent Atlanta car crashes and our best wishes for a full and fast recovery to those who have been injured.
